History of Mini Manor

The story of Garden Oasis begins in 1936, when the original two-story home was built. Over the years, I was told that the structure may have originally served as a chicken coop, though whether that was fact or simply a family tale remains uncertain.

Before my parents purchased the property in 1982, the house was known as “Ho Hum.” My mother was never fond of that name and chose to rename it “Mini Manor,” inspired by the two pillars that stood proudly on either side of the front door. She was heartbroken when those pillars eventually had to be removed due to extensive rot. Although she understood there was no alternative, she never quite forgave my father for taking them down.

In 2021, ownership of Mini Manor was transferred to me. Unfortunately, a thorough assessment revealed that the home had suffered too much structural deterioration and could not be saved. After much consideration, the difficult decision was made to demolish the house in 2024 and rebuild.

At the time, my mother was battling cancer. It was incredibly important to me that she have the opportunity to review and bless the plans for the new home, as I wanted to preserve the spirit and character of Mini Manor. She loved the designs and gave them her wholehearted blessing.

Mom also walked me through her beloved gardens, sharing her favorite flowers and plants so I would know what to incorporate into the new landscape. I wanted the property to continue reflecting her love of gardening and to serve as a living tribute to her. Ensuring that she remained part of the property’s future was deeply important to me, and in 2022 mom and I selected the name Garden Oasis.

Sadly, my mother passed away in May 2023 and was unable to witness the construction of the new home. Before her passing, she told me that she would come back to visit as a monarch butterfly. Throughout the construction of Garden Oasis, monarch butterflies have appeared time and time again, bringing me comfort and a sense of peace. Their presence has made the property feel especially meaningful, serene, and peaceful.

To honor Mom and welcome her home, Garden Oasis will include a variety of plants that nourish and support monarch butterflies. In this way, her memory will forever remain a part of the gardens she loved so dearly.
